Why Outsource Your IT Support to a Part-Time Tech?

There are many good reasons to hire dedicated  part-time tech support. A good tech will:

  • Save You Money:
    • Keep you systems running. A knowledgeable tech will get your systems up and running quickly and efficiently, meaning less time on the phone with offshore tech support
    • Decreased employee costs. You only pay a part-time tech when they are working. You don't pay benefits to your part-time tech and you don't incur payroll taxes or the costs of training and turnover..
  • Allow you to Focus on Your Business:
    • By ensuring you systems are running efficient, you can focus on your expertise: running your business.
  • Provide Useful Feedback:
    • A skilled tech will know how to structure your hardware and software in such a way as to provide the maximum utilization of your systems.

What Should You Look for in a Tech?
When hiring a tech it is important to make sure they are the right person for your company. If the tech you hire will be able to get and keep your systems running then it is important that they have a thorough understanding of your business and your specific needs. We recommend the following before hiring tech/IT support:

  • Talk to potential techs about your business and your needs. An experienced tech should be able to relate to the specific issues you are facing and should have ideas as to how to address them.
  • Ask your potential tech what types of companies they have worked with. It is helpful to find a tech that has experience with companies and systems similar to yours.
  • Ask for references. If the tech you are interviewing has worked well for others, then it is likely that they will for you as well.
  • Inquire about their hours. Many support techs work part-time or from home. This is not usually a problem, but it is important to make sure your tech will be available when you need help.
  • Ask about their rates. Qualified techs generally charge from $50 - $75 per hour. It is often worth paying more if your tech will be on call or working more than once on your system. A competent, efficient tech will charge you for fewer hours and will save you money and time in other ways.
